February 12, 2003
Seated at the head table with President Jodi Moscona were Jerry Boyce, Dr. Richard Shaw (our speaker), and yours truly. Jodi chose Dale Hodges to sing, Cal Robbins to pledge allegiance to the flag which was on Bill Eason's lapel, and Cliff Comeaux to pray. Jodi had Phil Jones introduce his guest, Amy Wold of The Advocate.
Steve Brown announced that everything is well in hand for our baseball tournament scheduled for Saturday, March 1, 2003. He said our billboard was up on College Dr. so look for it.
Jodi made several announcements, including: (1) LSU Circle K has an ongoing project with Highland Elementary School reading with the students there on Tuesday and Friday afternoons from 3-5 PM. Circle K would like for us to provide them with some canned goods to give to the students and Jodi asked each member to bring a can of food next week to give to Circle K. Jodi also announced that volunteers from our club would be welcome to join them any Tuesday or Friday afternoon. (2) Kiwanis International has a "Skip a Meal" program where a club skips a meal and sends what would have been spent to Kiwanis International. Jodi asked that each member skip a meal during the week (not our Kiwanis meal) and provide the proceeds so we can make a contribution. (3) Jodi presented pins to our two newest members, Ed Painter and Julie Dauzat.
Jerry Boyce announced that our meeting for February 19 will be at Our Lady of the Lake in Auditorium B. Please make note of the change.
H.P. Walker said that we had an interclub yesterday with "The Oaks Kiwanis" and Phil Jones, Bill Eason, Glen Nordyke, and Dick Luedtke represented us. Phil Jones spoke on his new book "Out of His Roots" which was well received.
H.P. also asked that you remember in your prayers Steve Henry who should be going home from the hospital this week. He said Steve's wife said cards would be appreciated. Fred Ladner asked that you also remember Jack Gill in your prayers and Jack would appreciate calls and cards.
Our speaker, Dr. Richard Shaw of the LSU Coastal Fisheries Dept., was introduced by Jerry Boyce. Dr. Shaw gave us a slide presentation about fish and oil and gas rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. Boy, did I learn some stuff I never knew! How about you?
Jodi read a thank you card to the Club from Dakota Wilson, one of our 4-H club members, thanking us for our financial support of that youth program.
In the jackpot were losers all: Charles Hair, Charles Rea, and Brett Mason who was not present.
Next week's program, per Jerry Boyce, will be Beverly Brooks Major of LSU Career Services.
SL, Esq.
Remember next week's meeting is at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, Auditorium B, near the main cafeteria.
