Jeff Koonce Update

Jeff Koonce and his family were recently in a serious car wreck. His father was at the Feb. 25 meeting  & said that Jeff is home, but is beat up pretty bad. The club sent a flower arrangement & the club’s thoughts and prayers are with Jeff & his family. Jeff has a 10 inch skull fracture. Jeff took the brunt of the impact, so his wife & children are fine. Jeff was unconscious for about 20 minutes & lost a lot of blood.  The wreck was very serious & he is lucky to be alive. We will keep you posted.

K-facts: More Objects of Kiwanis

-To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.

-To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.

-To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.

Next week: The Vision of Kiwanis.

Mid-Winter Conference

Our club won a plethora of awards at this event, as follow:

Annual Report Contest
Distinguished Club Award
District Growth Award
Convention & Conference Award
Governor’s Project Award
Sponsored Youth Award
Administrative Honor Award
District Foundation Award
Distinguished Kiwanian - Jodi Moscona

This recognition should make us all very proud. Tell prospective members about this, and keep up the good work!

Guest Speaker:
Turtle Thomas, LSU Baseball Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator

Coach Turtle Thomas talked about the entire athletic program at LSU. He reeled off figures and statistics on how much each program (football, basketball, baseball) makes & what it costs to run each program. He stated that after the football team won the national championship this year, the university did not receive as much money as many think. He stated that the football program of any university provides the major funding necessary for all of the other sports. He also said that our baseball program earns enough to support some of the smaller sports programs.

Next Week’s meeting:

We will be at the new location of the Great Wall Restaurant (finally), in the same shopping center on College Drive , noon , on Wednesday, March 3.  The speaker is unknown.
