March 17, 2004
Song: Bill Stracener
Pledge: Terry Bell
Prayer: Charles Rea
Intros: George Simoneaux
Guests were Charles Rea's wife & two Catholic High Key Clubbers
1st meeting at A Taste of China. Food was very good. We will be
there
permanently, until the Board decides to move the meetings.
Our speaker was Dr. Shane Johnson, a finance professor at LSU. He
received his Ph D in Finance from LSU in 1991 & currently holds the
Banking Chair position at LSU. He talked about common mistakes
investors make. Some of these were 1)holding on the investments long
after they became bad investments 2)Looking at the incentives of the
person trying to sell you the investment 3)attributing success to money
managers based on prior performance. Dr. Johnson delivered persuasive
arguments for each of his positions. He was extremely interesting and
used simple examples to explain complex problems.
