March 26, 2003

President Jodi Moscona presided at the Club's meeting at the Marriott Hotel at noon on March 26, 2003. Bill Stracener lead the song, Terry Bell the pledge, and Charles Rea offered the prayer.

The introduction of guests was somewhat confusing. Jodi had as his guest Garth Roberts of Lamar Advertising - a Baton Rouge boy recently returned to work here. Carlos Ortiz brought his wife, daughter, and granddaughter. Mary Lea Fears from BRPT-LAKE accompanied our speaker.

Mac Buhler led four members of the Southeast Kiwanis Club to make an interclub. He was selling tickets to their fundraiser to be held at The Wal-Mart on O'Neal Lane on April 26 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Tickets are $6.00 for which you get one-half a barbequed chicken. All Capital City members were encouraged to support the event.

Bob Schmidt reminded the club of the scheduled cleanup of Perkins Road on Saturday April 5. He passed around a sign up sheet. Meet at 7:00 AM that morning at his old office at 10935 Perkins Road.

Jodi gave recent new member Jason Schwartzenburg his pin, which had not been presented when he was inducted.

Jerry Boyce introduced our speaker, Seth Kaplan of the Baton Rouge Physical Therapy organization who presented an outstanding program on physical conditioning for older people such as our club. He presented exercises needed for older people to keep playing golf but must have been disappointed at how few of our members play golf. He pointed out that famous golfer Gary Player is in good condition because he does 1000 sit-ups each day and he is in his 70's.

He emphasized the importance of good posture. He has a program of swing dynamics to keep playing golf at an old age. Jerry Boyce was used to demonstrate but since he is only 30 years old he still has the needed hip flexibility. Hip flexibility and stomach muscle strength are critical. He can make a video evaluation of anyone interested in maintaining his strength. He demonstrated some exercises on a large rubber ball that he said was available many places.

The jackpot money collector was absent so no jackpot cards were drawn.
