Speaker: Verge Ausberry, LSU Associate Athletic Director for
Corporate Relations and Operations
Verge
played inside linebacker for the Tigers, lettering in 1986-89. He was the
leading tackler on the team in both 1988 & 1989. He was part of two
SEC championship teams. He played professional football with the Houston
Oilers. He joined the LSU Athletic Dept administrative staff in August
2001. He talked about the LSU Athletic Dept being one of the few athletic
departments in the nation to be “in the black.” He talked about how
revenues are divided between the SEC schools. A question was asked about
the chance of college players being paid for their efforts considering the
amount of money they bring in to the school. He stated that that would
cause all of the smaller schools in the state to shut down their athletic
departments, as they could not compete.
