We all left stronger, straighter - maybe healthier - but more about that later.
The meeting started with Brandt Edwards leading our patriotic "America," followed by Cal Robbins standing straight and tall and leading us in the Pledge, and Charles Rea, praying for us, and with us in a well-worded prayer.
Glad to hear from Jodi that Bill Stracener was bouncing back from a triple bypass coronary procedure, and we all said "Get Well Soon" in our own way, as the Recovery Card came around for signatures. Steve Henry is still at home recovering from his surgery, and will welcome calls and perhaps even visits from his Kiwanis friends.
Max will be a substitute Stracener until Bill returns. Jack Gill is back at his office, and we hope to see him at our next meeting.
Now to the part about our health. Our speaker was Gloria Wall. A delightful, knowledgeable young woman who is a Physical Therapist. She addressed the tennis players among us, the military (past, of course) among us, the lawn mowers among us, and was even requested by the bald men among us (she failed to recommend any remedy). And she reminded us what leads to injury. Told us to stretch, to sit up straight, and lots of things we've been neglecting. Told us to take plenty of calcium to avoid cramps. And drink lots . . . of water and milk. Her presentation was interesting, deeply, to all of us, and rounded out Jerry Boyce's month of programs with a flourish. Thank you Gloria, and thank you Jerry.
Bob Schmidt was honored at Yale recently . . . as were all Yale alumni. The honor? President Bush mingled with members of his class! Bob, can you make a program out of that contact?
The jackpot grows and grows and grows! Where were you, Wayne Price (loser)? Where were you Jay Jalenak(loser)? You both would have been reassured, at least, that your card was in the deck. And where were you, newest member Ed Painter? You could have walked off a winner, rich beyond your wildest dreams! Try again . . . all of you . . . next week.
