May 21, 2003
The Meeting was launched when Bill "Mr. Wu" Stracener led the Singing, David Cooley led the Pledging, and C. Rea uttered the Supplication.
Our President Elect, Brandt Edwards, presided with speed, dispatch, and capability in the absence of El Presidente Moscona.
SILENT CAL Robbins, without a torrent of words, told of the Annual "Coaches' Dinner" scheduled for June 3, 2003, at the Lod Cook Alumni Center. Calvin can be reached at 926-0884.
Our speaker, Mark Thornton, new director of BREC, was introduced by joking Joe Culotta.
Mark has been in office since Jan. 13 and paid tribute to his predecessor, Gene Young. He noted that BREC is unusual, if not unique, in these United States. BREC operates a Neighborhood Park System, whereas in practically all other jurisdictions parks are not within walking distance of citizens. BREC manages 64 parks in EBR.
Incidentally, our own Philip Jones in 19__ was instrumental in having BREC establish a playground under the Interchange of I-10 and I-110. At the time Phil was a member of our Boys and Girls Committee, headed by the late Walt Gill, brother of our late friend, Jack Gill.
Per David Cresson, the "Children's Miracle Radiothon" will be held this Friday at OLOL St. Mary's from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Let's hope it was successful.
No Jackpot winner, no Jackpot loser. No Jackpot.
Next Wednesday, May 28, per Joking Joe Culotta, we shall hear Don Powers, V.P. of the B.R. Chamber.
Take note of the absence of the purple-prose and icon-busting in this, probably the last Bull. to be written by this long, longtime Editor.
