Guest Speaker: Susan Williams, Acting Regional Manager for LA Department of Labor

Mrs. Williams talked about the functions of the local department of labor office. They have funds available to train workers for businesses. To qualify, the employer must request training to prevent job loss caused by obsolete skills, technological change, or national or global competition. The employer must have at least 15 people to be trained.  The employer then identifies potential training providers. An application is then filed with the LA Department of Labor. If approved, the training is funded by the state. See the LA Department of Labor’s website for more details at www.ldol.state.la.us. As the employment office, they provide a listing of jobs available to the public. Each applicant is screened to ensure that they meet the qualifications the employer is looking for. They also handle the unemployment insurance for employers/employees.

New Meeting Place : Walk On’s

The June 2 meeting was our first at Walk-On’s. The food and service was excellent, and the general consensus is that we have found a new home. We look forward to a long and happy relationship with this restaurant, and we expect the strong attendance at our first meeting there to continue and grow. Please spread the word to any members who did not show how great our new home is and encourage them to attend from now on.

End of the Year Banquet

The event will be held at Ashley Manor this year on Friday, August 20th. Mark your calendars and start looking for a date now. More details to come later.
