Gracing the head table with President Jodi Moscona were Allan Brent, Sen. Jay Dardenne (our speaker), and yours truly. Jodi chose the regulars: Bill Stracener to sing, Cal Robbins to lead the pledge, and Brandt Edwards to pray. Jodi introduced our guests: Andy McDonald who was a guest of Jason Schwartzenburg was introduced by Wilson Baldridge in Jason's absence. Cal Robbins had Charles Harper as his guest. Todd Balden of the LSU Circle K club was in attendance.
Todd Balden told us that two weeks ago Circle K had their International Convention and their club received the third place award for achievement and an honorable mention award. Circle K International has established the "Tomorrow Fund" with a goal of raising $100,000.00 of which more than one-half has already been raised. Todd was selling pins for the Fund for $3.00 each.
Bill Stracener had Bob Wiemer give Jodi his first year perfect attendance tab, and Jodi reciprocated by giving Bob his thirty-nine years of perfect attendance tab. Congratulations to both.
An interclub is planned for tomorrow at 7:00 A.M. with the Walker Club, per Glen Nordyke. He, Max Constantin, and the two Charleses (Comeaux and Rea) all volunteered to go.
In club business, Jodi, Brandt Edwards, and Chad Olivier were elected delegates to the District Convention in Memphis August 1-3. Carlos Ortiz is the alternate. LaMissTenn is having a "member's only" raffle thru August 15, 2003. Our club gave $100.00 and individual members can buy tickets for $25.00 each. The second annual club banquet is scheduled for August 23, 2003 at Ashley Manor Plantation with tickets costing $20-$25 each. The meeting of August 20, 2003 will be a roundtable.
Allan Brent introduced our speaker, Sen. Jay Dardenne who has been a speaker at our club on a number of occasions. Jay indicated we as a state are looking at a bleak future budgetwise in the coming years. Positive points for us were the recent Wall St. upgrade of our bond rating (we were one of only two states to accomplish that distinction), reform of the juvenile justice system, DNA testing, and coastal erosion prevention.
In the Jackpot were Charles Rea, Allan Brent, and Phil Jones who was not eligible.
Next week's speaker is scheduled to be Myrtle Dorsey of Baton Rouge Community College.
Jodi concluded the meeting announcing that officer training will take place on August 9th.
