Mrs. Suzanne Terrell
Louisiana
Commissioner of Elections
Ms.
Terrell gave an interesting and informative presentation, focusing on issues
such as voter turnout, the primary system, voter fraud, low turnout among young
voters, and more. She mentioned how Louisiana’s voting system was rated
“best in the country” despite public perception, and that our state
administers the Country’s only “paperless” elections.
Ms. Terrell went on to discuss the function of the Department of
Elections, as well as the job of Elections Commissioner. She also touched on the
primary role of the State’s Attorney General as the state’s primary legal
defense against lawsuits. After her wonderful presentation, Ms. Terrell opened the floor for
questions. CCK is very appreciative
to Suzanne Terrell for her time.
Other Business:
This
was our first meeting at the Great Wall! The staff was very friendly and
helpful, and the food was great. We had plenty of room to meet and eat and look
forward to great meetings and a good relationship with our gracious hosts.
Joe
C. reminded everyone about the LSU Book Bazaar to take place on Thursday,
October 2nd from 5pm-7pm at the LSU Ag Center Mini Farm.
Volunteers should (have) arrive(d) shortly before 5pm.
Brandt
Edwards addressed to club for the first time as our new President.
He first offered congratulations to Amy Starnes and her husband, and
David Cresson and his wife, each of whom are expecting babies in the upcoming
months. Brandt also expressed his
desire to continue the wonderful work of our past presidents.
He pledged that he would work hard to achieve “Club of Distinction”
status once again for CCK. Brandt
also announced that we could expect changes in the club bulletin, and reminded
everyone that all bulletin information should be forward to Ben Brown.
Brandt then stressed the confidence he has in his committee chairpersons
and the incoming Board of Directors.
Much thanks to David Cresson for compiling this recap!
SPOTLIGHT
ON……
Amy Starnes
I am originally from Baton Rouge. I work for Lamar Advertising as an Account Executive. I am married and pregnant with our first child who is due at the end of December. I enjoy exercising, reading and spending time with friends. I joined Capital City Kiwanis to become more involved in the community and to meet new people. I graduated from St. Joseph's Academy and LSU with a degree in marketing. I am an LSU fan and look forward to the rest of the football season.
This is YOUR new bulletin …
And
I hope you like what you see so far. I plan to do many more features on
projects, updates on our sponsored youth clubs, Kiwanis news from the district
and international levels, and most importantly good news about our members and
their lives and successes. PLEASE give me your feedback on how to make this
bulletin better. I hope it evolves into something special with your help.
Tell me about yourselves!
I
want your info so I can do a “spotlight on” one of our great members every
week. Even if you don’t want to submit a full bio, just tell me some good news
about you so I can print it for everyone to see. If not, I might just make up
some good news about you and print it anyway (just kidding). Seriously, our
members are all doing great things that we all want to hear about, so share
away!

Youth Update
The University High
Key Club has received an extremely large recognition from Key Club
International. It has come to our attention that they won a trophy in the
single service competition at this summer’s International Convention. This is
something to be extremely proud of, and we will soon do a full spotlight on the
winning project and their prestigious award. There will also soon be a report on
the Divisional Rally held September 13th.
