Jeff informed the club all about the Hurricane Katrina Tax Relief measure
and all the extensions and allowments it could possibly provide members and
their businesses.


CLUB BUSINESS

Governor's Visit
   Charles Rea gave a report on the recent Kiwanis Governor's visit to
division 8A, which included a visit from the International President. The
President was reported to be very personable and funny, and many of his
jokes were shared with the club.

Election of new board
   Our new year started October 1 and unfortunately Ben Brown said he will
not be able to be president this year due to work and school conflicts.  Bob
Schmidt said he will be president this year, with Charles Rea and Cal
Robbins as vice-presidents, Jerry Boyce as Secretary, and Rick Martin as
Treasurer. There will be a vote at at the October 19 meeting to formalize
this arrangement.

Board Meeting
   The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 11 (TONIGHT!!) at Cal Robbins'
office at 5:00 p.m. (United Plaza Two, 8550 United Plaza Blvd., Suite 600,
phone 926-0884). Everyone is invited to attend. There are eight positions on
the board which need to be filled, and committee chair assignments which
need to be made.


UPCOMING SPEAKERS

October 12 - Ty McMains with the Baton Rouge Area Foundation. He will talk
about their fund raising efforts in the wake of Katrina/Rita.

October 19 - Sister Judith Brun and a representative with the International
Rescue Committee. They will talk about what they have done in the wake of
Katrina/Rita.
