Speaker was Todd Husers, Independent State Farm insurance agent from Prairieville, LA.

Bob Schmidt introduced the speaker.

Todd Husers is originally from Eunice, LA and attended LSU.  He was a good friend of fellow club member Jeff Koonce.  Mr. Husers discussed the catastrophic effects of hurricane's Katrina and Rita from the perspective of the insurance company.  A discussion of the claims process, clean up efforts, and many technical aspects of his job ensued.  State Farm has 30 % of the state of LA market share in homeowner's policies as well as automobile policies.  The # of claims during Katrina was 275,000 homeowner's claims and 87,000 auto claims.    In contrast, during Rita approximately 40,000 claims have already been filed.  This tremendous loss means that the price of premiums will experience an increase.

Mr. Husers also discussed the difference between flood insurance and homeowner's insurance.  Mr. Husers also commented on the difference between flooding from surging waters and wind driven rain.  $250,000.00 is the maximum flood protection one can receive.  The insurance companies classify damage as a severity level 1, 2, and 3 with the level severity 1 being the most severe.

No jackpot was conducted.

Meeting was adjourned.

Yours truly,
