Calvin Robins announced the next board meeting was Tuesday Nov. 8th at 5 p.m.
Cal also introduced the speaker, Mr. Ken Uffman of LSU Cadets Corp. of the Old War Skule.
The subject of the talk centered on the LSU military tradition of the school. It began on Jan. 2, 1860 in Pineville, La. Lt. Colonel William Tecumsah Sherman was the 1st superintendent of LSU. Oct. 2, 1865, marked the date of the naming of David Boyd as LSU's second superintendent. In 1930, LSU produced officer candidates for the first time. In WWII, LSU led the way producing 15 generals who served the United States Military, that was the most in the country even more than West Point. The LSU salutes program will hold events during this weekend's homecoming football game against Appalachian St. 10 new members will be inducted into the LSU wall of Fame on the Campanile. Among those recognized, Robert Barrow, Former Court Commander of the US Marine Corps. Currently, LSU has 250 individuals in the Cadet Corp. that number would need to be 700 to reach Brigade Status by the year 2010, at least, it is a lofty goal of the LSU Cadet Corp. If an Alumnus or Military veteran wants to join LSU Salutes there is a membership fee of $50.00 and there are 6 meetings a year at the Military Barracks on Campus.
