Last Week's Speaker: Korey Wales

Korey Wales is the new regional business liaison for the Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce. His job is to create awareness of the Incumbant Worker Training Program (IWTP).

The IWTP is designed to benefit businesses by providing customized training to existing employees. The training program strives to update employee skills, increase overall company productivity and increase employee wages. The program is designed to prevent job loss caused by obsolete skills, technological change or national/global competition. To be eligible for participation in this initiative, a business must have operated in Louisiana and contributed to the state's Unemployment Insurance System for at least three years. Also, an employer or consortium of employers with similar needs must have at least 15 employees needing to be trained. Employers must exhibit a long-range commitment to employee training.

Once a business's employees complete training through the IWIP program, the Dept. of Labor reviews the raises offered to employees.

Comments & Suggestions:

-Great job working as a group!

-Retaining members is important. Also, continuously recruiting new members is important for the future of our club.

-To achieve a varied agenda of speakers and topics, members should be asked for suggestions on programs and speakers for the committee to follow up on. Suggestions should be assessed every three to six months.

-Keep up the good work!

Quote of the Week

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do.
