December 11, 2002
Seated at the head table with President Jodi Moscona were our speaker Ginger Miller, David Cresson, and yours truly. Jodi chose Dale Hodges to lead the song, David Cresson to lead the Pledge, and Joe Culotta to lead the prayer
We had no guests today, though there were a number of senior members.
There were several announcements made by Jodi: (1) Kiwanis International is offering a prescription drug discount program which is free for all members to try until the first of the year and, after that, the card is $10.95 per year for a family. (2) The Board of Directors voted to sponsor the baseball tournament again in the spring. The date will be the first weekend in March 2003. (3) Since Christmas and New Years fall on Wednesday this year, we will move our meeting to Thursday at the Marriott. At the meeting today Jodi said we would hold a joint meeting with Downtown Kiwanis at their place, but that has changed. (4) Our next meeting will be presided over by a guest member of Circle K. Our speaker is tentatively scheduled to be Stacy Barbier of the American Heart Association.
Correction about the Christmas party scheduled for December 20, 2002 at Steve Brown's home - the cost will be $25.00 per couple instead of $20.00, and bring a new toy that will be sent to Toys for Tots to be distributed to needy children.
Rick Martin presented Legion of Honor awards to Cliff Comeaux and Lewis Doherty, both of whom have been in the club more than 50 years. Other members who will be receiving this award are Jack Gill, Allan Brent, and Lenton Sartain.
David Cresson introduced our speaker, Ginger Miller of the Baton Rouge Regional Eye Bank. The Eye Bank was established in 1976 at OLOL, but is now independent. Ours is one of 95 eye banks in the country. The Eye Bank has 12 hours to recover donor tissue which has to be transplanted within seven days. They do 120 transplants per year in Baton Rouge with a 95% success rate.
The editorial staff of your bulletin wishes each of our members and their families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
