December 26, 2002
Because of the holidays the meeting this week was held at the Marriott Hotel on Thursday, December 26, 2002. Evidently many of our members thought the holidays were still in being since attendance was very light. Jodi Moscona (who acts more like a President every week) presided.
Bill Eason led the singing, Jerry Boyce the pledge, and Charles Rea the prayer. There were no guests.
President Moscona announced a fund raiser by CHS Key Club and asked for help. It will be a garage sale on Saturday, February 1, at Catholic High School. Please start saving your garage sale items and call if you have anything. Call the Key Club moderators: Jason Darensbourg, 383-0397 X270, jdarensbourg@catholichigh.org or Ramona Mayer, 383-0397 Extension 240, mayer@catholichigh.org.
The program seemed to suffer from Post-Christmas stress and did not show up. Steve Brown used the time to great advantage by reviewing the preparations for the upcoming baseball tournament which will be held on Saturday, March 1 at the LSU baseball stadium. That is the beginning of the Mardi Gras season.
Steve stressed the need for more volunteers and sponsors. He presented detailed information about preparations for the event and asked the members for any questions they may have. It is important that members work their shifts so that others will not have to work all day. The cleanup is particularly important so that LSU will continue to rent us the stadium. Members are asked to remain after the tournament for the cleanup as long as it takes. Stadium rent is $1500.
Catholic High gives up their regular Saturday schedule so they need a sponsor to compensate them. Each team will be given $500 to cover their expenses.
Steve passed out programs from last year to use as guides and also sponsor applications to each member to encourage assistance in getting sponsors. Details are on those sheets. Printers are needed for tickets and passes. Lamar Advertising will be asked to supply billboards, particularly the large lighted one.
Steve needs one contact for each of the six schools to work with officials at the school. There is a need to publicize so that more students attend. We also need more concession volunteers.
If you have questions or suggestions contact Steve.
Losers for the jackpot were Bill Eason and Bob Schmidt. Cal Robbins was the winner.
Because of the New Year Day holiday the meeting next week will again will be held at the Marriott on Thursday at noon, Jan. 2, 2003. The speaker is unknown.
